My mom is an avid garage shopper. She will grab a
friend and on Saturday hit the streets, combing the
neighborhoods looking for that great deal. I
have often asked myself why she does it—she already
has “everything“ and adding one more thing to her
collection of “stuff” doesn’t seem all that
productive. If there is something specific she needs
in her life she will go out to the store and find it
on sale somewhere, I don’t think she reserves her
shopping for garage sales. So, I have come to the
conclusion that the reason she and many others
thrive on garage sales is because the experience
offers the thrill of “getting a good deal.”
You don’t have to wait until the summer season of
garage sales comes into full sway in order to get a
great deal, all it takes is a little fore planning
and a little savvy and you can find great deals just
about anytime. Think about the Internet as one great
big garage sale. Here are some helpful tips on
finding great deals at huge discount savings on the
Internet:
Look for items on Ebay.
Ebay offers the advantage of negotiating (part of
the “game” so many garage sale shoppers love so
much). On Ebay you can offer what you think
the product is worth. You can find literally
anything on Ebay and many times walk away with
unbelievably great savings. I have a friend who only
buys his personal on Ebay. He says that he can find
the highest quality silk ties and end up only paying
$10 for each.
A great kept secret to finding the hottest deals on
Ebay is to search for misspelled items on the site.
For example, if you were interested in diamonds then
you might type in a keyword search for “dimonds.”
You can sometimes find savings of up 95% on good
quality items by doing these kinds of misspelled
searches.
Google Advertisers.
Google offers advertisers the opportunity for
vendors to advertise their products on sites such as
this. These are people who have specialized products
and are looking for interested potential buyers.
Half.com
Half.com is a division of Ebay and many people
associate it as the great place to find huge
discount savings on books. However, many people
don’t realize that Half.com also offers substantial
savings on items besides books. Take a browes around
their website and you will see that they offer a
wide variety and assortment of products at huge
savings to you.
Overstock.com
Oversstock.com is a discount clearing house of
sorts. Similar to Ebay it offers their visitors
massive savings on wide variety of products. People
can find savings on things like refurbished items
such as computers or other consumer electronics.
They also offer great savings on items such as
returns where consumers, for whatever reason,
unhappy with prior purchases return the products to
the original store. Many times these are products
with no defects at all, the only “problem“ being a
case of buyers’ remorse the wrong color, or “it
doesn’t fit.”
